Established in 2003 the Bahia Yoga studio welcomes students off all levels and background. It runs classes to help explore the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga and meditation. This reflects founder Jasmin Bahia’s training as a Psychologist, student of Zen and her 16 years yoga teaching experience.
Bahia Yoga has steadily become one of Nottingham’s leading Yoga schools. With a warm and encouraging environment, daily classes are held in a bright and spacious studio in the heart of the city. From Ashtanga, Sivananda, Yoga Nidra, Chair Yoga to Vinyasa Flow, alongside meditation and mindfulness courses.
With an emphasis on making learning accessible to everyone they run mini 4-week courses exploring the subtler sides of yoga from anatomy awareness, philosophy, pranayama, and mantra and restorative practices.
Since 2011, Bahia Yoga has been running a 200-hour course, with expert teacher training tuition in the East Midlands. This popular programme has seen students travel from all over the country to train. It provides the option to study over 10 or 12 months periods, including both weekend and weekday courses.
Their 60 hours Yoga Foundation training programme is an ideal opportunity for students wishing to develop their Yoga practice, and understanding of philosophy further. With a specialist 500-hour programme launching in 2019, it provides teachers a chance to advance their practice and teaching skills.
Bahia Yoga promotes events in the community from classes for Older Adults with Nottingham City Homes, to running ‘Yoga in the Park’, for Refugee week and International Peace Day. Working with local independent businesses to promote health and wellbeing, there are weekly Yoga Breakfast classes, seasonal Yoga Brunch events and Mindful Yoga Lunch breaks.
Bahia Yoga is also home to mindfulness courses led by Jake Dartington from Nottingham Mindfulness. He is a respected Insight Meditation teacher who leads silent retreats at Gaia House Meditation Retreat Centre in Devon. He also has an M.A in Buddhist Studies and is an experienced teacher of Philosophy. Jake teaches meditation and philosophy within the Teacher Training Programmes at Bahia Yoga.
