At the time of writing, Nepal, the birthplace of Buddha and Buddhism has been hit by a devastating earthquake which has claimed thousands of lives and destroyed many villages. Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this disaster – and if you would like to make a difference, donations to the Nepal Earthquake Appeal can be made by visiting the Disasters Emergency Committee (dec.org.uk) or by calling 0370 60 60 900. You can also give cash at most high street banks or you can donate £5 by texting ‘SUPPORT’ to 70000.

With the summer solstice falling on the 21st of June, this auspicious date has been scheduled as World Yoga Day after the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi asked the world leaders to adopt this day to help change lifestyles and create consciousness which can help us address climate change. To celebrate this wonderful occasion, Yoga Magazine is running a two-day event that will be packed full of workshops, lectures, demonstrations and classes. So whether you’re a yoga practitioner wishing to attend, or a yoga teacher looking to get involved in either giving classes or a lecture at the event, then please see the details on page 11.

This month respected teacher Kirsty Gallagher, looks at the summer solstice as a time of change, and provides a range of yogic techniques to create change in your life alongside a simple yoga routine to help you remain grounded and centred in your truth and intentions.

We also take a look at the widely recognised Om mantra – and its significant use for yogic meditation and contemplation where it can deepen a yogi’s experience, and we provide practical techniques to help us connect to our roots through a seven-day journey through the chakras.

We hope you enjoy the magazine and look forward to meeting up with you in July.

Namaste
